The Challenge

Medtronic needed authentic, impactful testimonial videos to promote some of their newest medical devices, highlighting real-world experiences from people living with
type 1 diabetes and aortic stenosis. Filming took place during mid-COVID conditions, requiring not only strong creative direction but also meticulous travel planning,
COVID testing, and safety protocols.

Additionally, success depended on guiding patients and their families to share deeply personal, unscripted stories on camera — a delicate balance of directing, interviewing,
and building trust, all while adhering to strict regulatory and brand guidelines.

 

The Approach

As Producer of creative and on-site production, I led the following:

  • Coordinated travel and COVID protocols for crew and talent across
    multiple locations

  • Directed pre-interview preparation, and scripted interview questions to ensure participants felt comfortable sharing their stories on camera

  • Conducted on-set interviews, asking thoughtful follow-up questions to draw out compelling, usable soundbites

  • Managed location setup, crew logistics, and shot planning, working closely
    with the Medtronic clients and my agency crew

  • Collaborated with my crew on b-roll planning and storytelling to authentically
    reflect the daily lives of the participants, including lifestyle shots and product-
    in-use footage

 

The Solution

  • Produced 10 authentic, story-driven testimonial videos Medtronic device users
    over the course of a year

  • Successfully filmed on-location during mid-pandemic, following all health
    and safety protocols

  • Delivered both long-form videos and short social media cuts for use across
    multiple marketing channels (website, paid social, sales tools)

 

The Results

  • Captured compelling patient narratives that showcased Medtronic devices
    that improved users’ daily lives

  • Maintained full compliance with Medtronic’s regulatory, legal, and brand guidelines

  • Enabled Medtronic to connect authentically with their target audience —
    Medtronic medical device patients and their families — during critical product adoption campaigns
